June – August:
Dry and sunny (maximum 20°C) with crisp nights (approx. 5°C)

October – April:
Late afternoon showers and thunderstorms, sometimes heavy hailstorms

Johannesburg and surrounds are generally best in automn and spring.

Kwazulu Natal

The Kwazulu Natal Coast is typically sub-tropical with a summer rainfall. Summer can be extremely humid, but other seasons very pleasant.

Drackensberg

November – February:
dry and sunny resembling the Mediterranean climate, temperatures 28 – 32 °C. South Easterly winds can blow. Evenings cool. Spring (late Sept to November) is very pleasant and both flora and fauna are good.

June-August:
can be cold when the occasional snow falls deck mountain peaks (5 – 17°C) and often wet. However there are often sunny days in between and winters can be very mild in this region.

March-May:
Automn is often considered the secret season as it is still warm and not crowded.

Great Karoo and the far North, semi-desert interior between the 3 Cape provinces, can be extremely hot notabley in summer.
