Join us on an interactive township experience with a difference! Visiting a township is a must on the hit-list of things to do when visiting Cape Town. Our visit gives guests insight into everyday life in urban townships near Cape Town.

Discover the Xhosa cultural heritage, modern post-apartheid township life and success stories on visits to hand-picked arts and crafts projects boasting luxury funky products. This is the ideal context for our knowledgeable guides to share some of the history of beads and more with you.

Beads have always had a value in South Africa, be it to indicate status, feelings, fashion or be it as a means of payment in the days of early trade. Today arts and crafts, fashion and related industries showcase contemporary trends with African style and often generate a fundamental income to local families.

Other stops may include for example visiting local artists in their homes or workshop, "Spaza Shops" (informal stores) or local hairdressing salons. These are popular opportunities to interact and exchange with locals in their everyday routine.

A visit to a fair trade organization that showcases exceptional bead and township wirework of top quality, allows us to meet the artists and enjoy the creative atmosphere of the workshop while joining in to make our very own personal souvenirs of our trip to South Africa!1

Optional: A traditional lunch.

1Due to time constraints guests will not necessarily get to complete their beaded souvenir, but will have started and be able to finish their beaded souvenirs alone.
