Ceramic painting
workshop
South African ceramics date back to the late Stone/early
Iron Age and the history of the indigenous San peoples. The history of
ceramics is also that of rich colours, creative patterns and takes on
diverse forms. Highly decorative patterns still adorn clay homes of the
Ndebele of Mpumalanga, the Sothos of the Drakensberg and many rural areas
of South Africa.
From practical to trendy objects ceramics are part and parcel of African
life as well as the international scene. Lending itself to fashion &
design, modern and traditional, African ceramics feature in fashion and
interior design.
After an introduction to inspiring methods and uses of ceramics in South
Africa, a local ceramist joins us for a hands-on /interactive ceramic
painting workshop.
Includes introduction to SA ceramics, guided ceramic tour, entrance fees,
transfers, workshop, kit, glazing and refreshments.
