The Andulela Wine Route Includes: Wine tastings, transfers, hands-on wine blending demonstration Full day tour : ZAR 650,- p.p. Any trip through Cape wine country is guaranteed to leave you giddy: if the landscape alone doesn’t do it, the refreshments certainly will. But Andulela will send you home with more than a bit of wine-lore under your belt and a couple of bottles under your arm. We will introduce you to people who are passionate about taking South African viticulture into the 21st century. The art of winemaking has a long and glorious history in South Africa, and particularly in the Cape. More then 90% of all the country’s vineyards are located here; the vast majority sprinkled across the Boland, or Winelands Region, that supports towns like Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. These fertile and breathtakingly beautiful valleys were first cultivated by Dutch and Huguenot settlers in the early 17th century. The combination of perfect Mediterranean weather, favourable soil conditions, and the legacy of the colonial-era wine-masters has made Cape wine a global favourite of many years standing. For our own unique route through this historic territory, Andulela has handpicked some very special wineries, chosen not only for their splendid vintages, but for their forward-thinking attitude towards the social and ecological challenges of wine-farming in the New South Africa. At the lush headquarters of venerable industry giant Nederburg, you will be charmed by South Africa’s first ‘black white winemaker’, Zimbabwean-born Tariro Masayiti. Cellar door manager Danwin James will entertain us at Backsberg, the ‘greenest’ wine farm on the continent. Committed to the preservation of indigenous flora, energy efficiency, and recycling, Backsberg is one of only three wine farms in the world to have achieved ‘carbon neutral’ status. Our itinerary varies, but all tours leave from Cape Town’s Waterfront at 09.00 and break for a hearty African lunch at Roots Restaurant in the vibrant township of Kayamandi.
